Menomonee Falls School District

As part of the Menomonee Falls School District, Ben Franklin Elementary School (BFES) has an individual mission of “Everyone Belongs!” Aligning closely with the principles of trauma-informed care of empathy, inclusivity, and the understanding of individual experiences, BRES is pleased to be a recipient of a Fostering Futures Grant.
With this funding, BFES is pursuing two main efforts – Training and Capacity Building for staff, and Resource Access for students. Through training, staff will be better equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide trauma-informed care effectively through trauma awareness, student support groups, counseling support, and therapeutic techniques. Additionally, resources that facilitate trauma recovery will be made available to students such as such as calming tools, educational materials, and therapeutic modalities that the school can easily utilize to engage individuals in need of trauma-informed care approaches.
By embracing the school’s mission and supporting trauma-informed care, BFES is working toward a supportive and nurturing environment where every student feels valued, understood and empowered to thrive academically and emotionally. At the conclusion of its grant funding, BFES hopes to see enhanced social-emotional skills, increased resilience and coping skills, stronger family engagement, and enhanced staff well-being.
The Menomonee Falls School District is pleased to report that thanks to the Fostering Futures Grant funding, it was able to successfully send two staff members to the established and well respected “Trauma Sensitive School Training” provided by Wellpoint Care Network.
Additionally, to deepen their understanding of Trauma-Informed Care, these two staff members are also enrolled in a course called The Nero-sequential Model in Education, offered through CESA. In January, these two staff members will impart their new wisdom and training at the district’s January in-service to introduce TIC to additional staff members.
